Bible Reading: 2 Samuel 11: 1-27

Memory Verse:  Uriah answered David, “The ark, Israel, and Judah are dwelling in tents, and my master Joab and his soldiers are camping in the open field. How can I enter my house to eat and drink and sleep with my wife? As surely as you live and by your life, I will not do this! ” 2 Samuel 11:11 (CSB)

1. Uriah is an Hebrew name meaning, “God is light”.

2. He was a dutiful man, always on guard and always at alert. He was always found at his duty post (vs 6).

3. He was loyal to the instructions of his leader (commander) even unto death.

4. He was more loyal to his country than the commands of pleasure ordered by King David without much recourse to the consequences of disobedience to the latter’s orders (vs 8-9).

5. He loved the God of Israel more than he loved pleasure (vs 11)

6. Uriah was sexually disciplined. Freedom is not the absence of caution. There are seasons you must consecrate yourself as a man/woman.

7. Uriah is a typical example of a patriotic citizen. Patriotism is a fading virtue these days (vs 11). Think of what to give your country and not what your country should give you.

8. Uriah had respect for the covenant of God upon Israel more than the dainties of pleasure (vs 11).

9. Uriah used his own hands to deliver his execution letter (vs 14). May the Lord deliver us from enemies who pretend to love us but are all out to butcher us.

10. Even in his drunken state, he still had a measure of self control.

11. Uriah is a true example of a man who was sincere but undiscerning. May the Lord sharpen our spiritual discernment. There are many  ‘loveable’ enemies all around.

12. The story of Uriah depicts many strange things happening in pentecostal churches today. Beware of pentecostal witchcraft!

13. Be wary of gifts. There are gifts unto death. Someone could pamper you into your slaughter house.

14. Spiritual authorities must be honored at all times, but because they are still in flesh and blood they could be wrong atimes. You will need the wisdom of God to handle weaknesses of your spiritual leader.

QuoteIt is possible to be sincere but undiscerning.

Prophetic Decree: Receive grace for loyalty, patriotism and discernment of spirits, in Jesus name.

Prayer Focus

1. By the mercy of God I will not die before my time, in Jesus name.

2. I receive grace to be wise and discerning, in Jesus name.

3. I shall not receive a call unto death before the end of this year, in Jesus name.

4. O Lord, reveal and expose unfriendly friends unto me, in Jesus name.

5. I break any evil spiritual authority over my life, in Jesus name.
