Bible Reading: Matthew 19:16-24

Memory Verse:“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.Matthew 6:33(NKJV)

In 1923, nine of the wealthiest people in the world met at Chicago’s Edgewater Beach Hotel. Their combined wealth when estimated, exceeded the wealth of the Government of the United States at that time. These men certainly knew how to make a living and accumulate wealth. Yet, 25 years later, where were those nine industrial giants? The President of the then largest steel company (Bethlehem Steel Corp), Charles M Schwab, lived on borrowed capital for five years before he died bankrupt. The President of the then largest gas company, Howard Hubson, went insane. One of the greatest commodity traders (Wheat Speculator), Arthur Cutten, died insolvent. The then President of the New York Stock Exchange, Richard Whitney, was sent to jail. The member of the US President Harding’s cabinet cabinet, Albert Fall, was pardoned from jail just to be able to go home and die in peace. The greatest “bear” on Wall Street, Jesse Livermore committed suicide. The President of the then world’s greatest monopoly, Ivar Krueger, committed suicide. The President of the Bank of International Settlement, Leon Fraser, committed suicide. The president of the largest utility company, Samuel Insull, died penniless.

What they forgot was how to “make life” while they got busy making money! Money in itself is not evil but its love is the root of all evil? Money provides food for the hungry, medicine for the sick, clothes for the needy. Money is only a medium of exchange. We need two kinds of education: a) One that teaches us how to make a living, and b) One that teaches us how to live. Live for Christ. Only money used for Christ has enduring gain.

Quote: Do you own money or money owns you?

Prophetic Word: May you not spend your life chasing vanity at the expense of your soul, in Jesus name.

Prayer Focus

  1. I repent of any way I might have made money an idol, in Jesus name.
  2. I receive grace to put God first in all my life pursuit, in Jesus name.
  3. I receive grace to continue in deep fellowship with God even as I climb the ladder of success, in Jesus name.
  4. I reject success without Jesus in Jesus name.
  5. I will serve God while money will serve me, In Jesus name.
