Bible reading: Exo.32:15-19.

Memory Verse: “So it was, as soon as he came near the camp, that he saw the calf and the dancing. So Moses’ anger became hot, and he cast the tablets out of his hands and broke them at the foot of the mountain “Exodus 32:19

It is said the best predictor of future behaviour is past behaviour. Moses had a history of getting angry. Moses’ anger was first seen as a youth in Egypt when he became indignant as an Egyptian beat a Hebrew. His rage led to an act of fury where he killed the Egyptian and buried him. The death of the Egyptian resulted in Moses fleeing for his life (Exo. 2:11-15; Acts 7:23-29).

His next recorded outburst of anger occurred forty years later. (When the devil wants to use a weakness to destroy a particular person, he could be so patient). Moses announced the coming of the tenth plague on all the Egyptians firstborns. The Bible says: “He went out from Pharaoh in hot anger” (Exo. 11:8). He was furious that Pharaoh would not let the Israelites leave. Even though God had told him how stubborn Pharaoh would be, Moses was still not emotionally prepared to deal with Pharaoh’s stubbornness.

The third expression of Moses anger is seen several months after this event. Moses had just spent some extra-ordinary time in the presence of God. He was descending Mount Sinai with the two tablets that had been inscribed by the finger of God. He could not understand the unrighteousness of the Israelites. The people were perversely dancing around an idolatrous golden calf. The sight filled Moses with righteous indignation (Exo.32:15-19). Moses expressed his anger wrongly.

Prophetic Word: Receive the Spirit of self-control in Jesus name. Amen.

1. I curse the spirit of anger, in the name of Jesus.
2. Holy Spirit, flush every ancestral spirit of anger away from my life, in Jesus name.
