Bible reading: Psalm 82:2-4.
Memory Verse: Defend the poor and fatherless; Do justice to the afflicted and needy. Psalm 82:3
2. The Bible Identifies Unborn Children as Human Beings (Contd).
Finally, in other passages of Scripture, unborn children are treated as human beings on a literary level — they are given status and weight within the narrative of God’s Word. For example, both Jesus and John the Baptist are recorded as interacting in a human way while both were still in the womb (Luke 1:39-44).
In summary, whenever the Bible addresses unborn children — either directly or indirectly — it treats them as human beings.
3. The Bible Calls us to Defend Those Who Can’t Defend Themselves.
The Bible contains a number of passages in which God calls His people to stand up for those who are unable to defend themselves. That would certainly include unborn children.
In other words, the Bible views the practice of abortion as a social-justice issue. For example: “Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy.” Proverbs 31:8-9.
Also, read Psalm 82:2-4, James 1:26-27.
Key Point: God’s view gives no respect to man’s opinion. God is no respecter of persons.
Praying the Scriptures (Romans 12:1-2): By the mercies of God, I present my body as a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is my reasonable service. Holy Spirit, help me not to be conformed to this world but to be transformed by the renewal of my mind, that I may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
