DWOJ Daily Words of Jesus Devotional Post February

Wednesday, 8th February, 2017.

Bible reading: 2 Kings 6:1-7.

Memory Verse: “Now the sons of the prophets said to Elisha, “Behold now, the place before you where we are living is too limited for us” 2 Kings 6:1 (NASB).

Mentorship is a relationship between a mentor and a mentee. A mentor is that person who is more knowledgeable and/or experienced in a particular field. The Mentor may be older or younger but must have a certain area of expertise. The recipient of mentorship may be referred to as a protégé (male), a protégée (female), an apprentice or, a mentee. A footballer may be gifted but if he doesn’t respond properly to a good coach, he will not reach his peak. There are lots of people today that believe that the coach doesn’t have anything to do with the quality of the players. This is not true.

In the Christian setting, a mentor is called a “Spiritual Father” and a mentee is called “son or daughter”. Remember the Sons of the prophet in 2 Kings 6:1. A mentor is needed in all spheres of life – in career, ministry, health, marriage, etc. Mentoring is a process that always involves communication, and it is relationship based.

Your biological father gave birth to you, your heavenly Father redeemed your soul and re-birth your spirit, but your spiritual father is to father and redeem your calling and gifting. Esther was given to Mordecai, so he could father her into destiny. Elisha was given Elijah, Joshua was given to Moses and Solomon was given to David. Just as you can’t choose your earthly father, in the same way, you cannot choose your mentor or spiritual father. Let God guide you.

The same set of soldiers under Saul, who ran away from Goliath, became giant killers under David. It takes thorough mentorship for the maximum deployment of destinies.

Quote: If you don’t have a mentor, you may not go far.

Prophetic Word: May the Lord open your eyes to see the Paul needed to equip your Timothy for him destiny assignment, in Jesus name.

Prayer Point:

  1. I receive the spirit of humility to submit to mentorship in Jesus name.
  2. O Lord, guide my choice in the choosing a mentor.
