Bible reading: Luke 21:34, Romans 13:13

Memory verse: Then he said to them, “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.” Luke 12:15

There is a ravaging menace in our lives we all need to guard against. Recently, I was in a vehicle on a highway and a goat was eating a piece of food right at the middle of the road. The goat kept eating and almost got hit. I wondered at the level of a goat’s “wisdom!”

To the goat, having it all now is what matters most, not minding the aftermath. It doesn’t bother a goat whether it has life the next minute, to digest its food. What is important is to be full now and only now. This is known as immediate gratification.

As Christians, we are honoured beings meant to reason, behave and act like God. A man’s impulses should not rule him, just like animals dos. Christians are not meant to live for things.

How can you explain the rush to amass wealth, various manipulations and greed in today’s world? Shall we degenerate to act like animals? Most Christians no longer care whether God is pleased or who gets hurt in the course of a pursuit. They would rather want to pass their exams either by hook or by crook.

See the prescription of true Wisdom: “And He said to them, Guard yourselves and keep free from all covetousness (the immoderate desire for wealth, the greedy longing to have more); for a man’s life does not consist in and is not derived from possessing overflowing abundance or that which is over and above his needs” Luke 12:15.

Beware! Christians are to manifest the wisdom that is from Above which is “pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.” James 3:17.

Quote:  Wealth gotten either by hook or by crook ends in everlasting sorrow.

Prophetic Word:  I disconnect your destiny from ill-wealth, in Jesus name.

Prayer Focus:

Holy Spirit, thank you for this day.  I ask that you circumcise my heart. Grant me grace not to be crazy for materialism but to walk with you as you take me daily from one level of glory to another.
