Bible Reading: Galatians 5:19-21

Memory Verse: But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: “God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” James 4:6 (NKJV)

Pride is the oldest and the most common sin. Pride would not allow Adam admit he was wrong when God confronted him in the Garden of Eden. Pride is both a sin and a sign of a diseased soul. A complacent attitude that is difficult to cure. It is the cancer of our comforts and the poison of our duties. Indeed, it nourishes all sins. If a man is proud, it is to be feared because he lacks that which in his opinion has mastered. A proud soul finds it hard to say, “I’m sorry “, “Please” and “Thank you”.

Are you proud of your new i-phone, snickers, school grade, job or “ride”. Only the Lord could have made all these possible. Now you are the Student Union President, you brag about on campus oppressing those whose votes brought you to power. Why not allow humility work fully in you.

The root of every other sin can be traced directly or indirectly to pride. We are disobedient to God because we think we know too much. That’s pride! We fornicate because we think we can do anything with our bodies and get away with it. That’s pride! We cheat because we think we can outsmart another. That again is pride! We break school rules because we think we are superior to the law. That’s pride! We get angry because we think our opinion is superior. That’s pride. Pride is the voice always talking “me”, “I” and “myself” subtly but loudly within us. Take care of pride and all other sins will fizzle out.
