Bible Reading: Philippians 2: 5-11

Memory Verse: The reward for humility and fear of the Lord is riches and honor and life. Proverbs 22:4 (NIV)

This young man had no parent or family member to support him in his academics. Finally, he was able to secure an admission into the University to study Law. Instead of begging people in order to feed, he decided to humble himself doing menial jobs. He will go from one lecturer’s house to the other in the staff quarters washing their cars, and cleaning their dishes in exchange for stipends at their free will. You won’t believe that was how he paid his fees and managed himself throughout his Law degree program at the University. Tim Tebow was right, “We have to humble ourselves and the way you do that is by serving other people”. What a guy! The time came when he was to go to Law school. He needed to pay #250,000 ($500) which was too much for him to singlehandedly fund.

Then, he humbled himself some more and related his story to a Christian lecturer who was so impressed and footed the bill with some extra cash added. “Humble people ask for help” so says Joyce Meyer. That young lawyer now has a law chamber in Lagos, Nigeria and has been practicing for over 12 years. “Blessed are they who see beautiful things in humble places where other people see nothing” — Camille Pissarro. Please listen: Your destiny is not in the hands of any witch, wizard, or any strongman. Actually, your destiny is in your hands no matter your present challenges, but I will advice you to keep it in the hands of God even as you take personal responsibility in all humility. There has never been a great story without a pain to bear. Never!

I once saw a young handsome teenager who will help his mom to fry akara (bean cake) with dignity and with pride. I once shared with you the story of a very intelligent young man who helps his mum grind pepper before going to the University daily. The pathway to greatness is deep humility. The more humble you are, the more humble you must become, and the higher your destiny will rise. In conclusion, life will cheat you if you permit it. You’re responsible for the outcome of your life. There were many people in worse situation than you are who rose above their challenges and made a success out of their woeful background. May you shout the shout of victory at the end of your life, in Jesus name.
