Bible Reading: Proverbs 18:22; Ephesians 5:25–33; 1 Corinthians 13:4–7

Memory Verse:  Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.  Matthew 6:33

A godly and successful marriage doesn’t start at the altar; it starts in preparation. Many people focus on finding the right person, but God is more interested in you becoming the right person. Marriage is not a rescue mission; it is a union of two prepared individuals walking in purpose and alignment with God. How do you prepare yourself for a godly and successful marriage?

1. Build Your Relationship with God First: Before you can truly love someone else, you must be rooted in God’s love. When your life is centred on God, your decisions, including who you marry, will be guided by wisdom and not emotions. Instead of rushing into relationships because of pressure or loneliness, spend time developing your prayer life, studying the Word, and growing spiritually. A person who hears from God is less likely to marry wrongly.

2. Develop Godly Character: If you struggle with anger now, don’t assume marriage will fix it. Work on it. Learn patience, accountability, and self-control. The habits you build as a single person will follow you into marriage. Marriage magnifies who you already are. 1 Corinthians 13:4–7 reminds us that love is patient, kind, and not self-seeking.

3. Understand Purpose Before Partnership: You are not created just to marry, you are created for purpose. When you know your assignment, you will attract someone who complements it, not distracts from it. A person who knows they are called to ministry, business, or service will be careful not to marry someone who opposes or undermines that calling.

4. Learn Commitment and Responsibility: Marriage thrives on responsibility, not just romance. Faithfulness, consistency, and sacrifice are key. Be responsible in your current life. Manage your finances well, keep your word, show up on time, and honour commitments. If you cannot handle small responsibilities now, marriage will feel overwhelming later.

5. Seek God’s Guidance, Not Just Feelings: Feelings can be strong but misleading. God sees beyond what you see. Before entering a serious relationship, pray sincerely: “Lord, is this Your will?” Seek counsel from mature believers or mentors who can guide you objectively.

6. Surround Yourself with the Right Influence: Your environment shapes your expectations. If you are surrounded by people who don’t value godly marriage, it will affect your mindset. Stay connected to people and teachings that promote healthy, Christ-centred relationships.

Quote:  When you position yourself correctly spiritually, emotionally, and psychologically, you become prepared for the one God has ordained.

Prophetic Decree:  Receive grace to partner with the Holy Spirit as He shapes your character within and withal towards having a blessed marriage, in Jesus name.

Prayer Focus:

1. Lord, work on me and prepare my heart, character, and life for the marriage You have ordained, in Jesus name.

2. Lord, help me to seek You first, grow in love, and make the right decisions according to Your will, in Jesus name.

3. I silence the voice of every altar speaking woe to successful marriages in my lineage, in Jesus name.

4. Lord, break me and mould me to your desired vessel, in Jesus name.

5. I reject failed marriage. My marriage shall not end in divorce, in Jesus name.
