Bible Reading: Colossians 3: 12-14
Memory Verse: With all humility [forsaking self-righteousness], and gentleness [maintaining self-control], with patience, bearing with one another [a]in [unselfish] love. Make every effort to keep the oneness of the Spirit in the bond of peace [each individual working together to make the whole successful]. Ephesians 4:2-3 (NKJV)
It was Dr Stephen Akintayo who wrote: When you live long enough, you begin to understand that relationships are not sustained by feelings alone. Feelings come and go. What keeps people together is maturity. A relationship is not just about love, attraction, or excitement. Those things may bring two people together, but they are not strong enough to keep them together. What truly sustains a relationship is the ability to understand, to be patient, and most importantly, to forgive.
Because the truth is this: two people, no matter how good they are, will offend each other. There will be misunderstandings. There will be days when one person is not at their best. There will be moments when expectations are not met.
That is why I say a relationship is for two mature people. Not perfect people, mature people.
Maturity is what allows you to pause instead of react.
Maturity is what allows you to listen instead of assume.
Maturity is what allows you to forgive instead of keeping a score.
At its core, a strong relationship is simply two people who have decided that they will not give up on each other easily. Two people who understand that forgiveness is not weakness, but wisdom. Because without forgiveness, no relationship can last.
Every successful relationship is different. What works for one couple may not work for another. Some people talk more, some talk less. Some express love loudly, others quietly. Some move fast, others slowly. There is no single template for a perfect relationship.
The mistake many young people make is trying to copy what they see on social media, from friends, or from other couples—without understanding that those relationships are built on different personalities, values, and experiences.
So instead of chasing perfection or comparison, focus on these things: Learn to communicate, forgive and grow together.
Quote: A relationship is for two mature people. At its core, it is two forgivers living together. Every successful marriage is unique, with a version of its own template that cannot be copied by other couples, no matter how well it works for them – Dr. Stephen Akintayo
