Bible Reading: Galatians 6: 9-10

Memory Verse:  And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.” Galatians 6: 9-10 (ESV)

Reddit.com reports that: “During the 2010 Zheng-Kai marathon, Jacqueline Nyetipei Kiplimo from Kenya saw a Chinese elite athlete struggling to drink water because he had no arms. She ran with him from the 10km to the 38km mark aiding him through all the water stations. This slowed her time to second place. ‘I decided to run side by side with him for up to 38km mark, supplying water to him in all water stations.

That slowed me as opponents overtook me and sprinted to the finish line. At 38km, I tried catching up with the winner but it was too late but I was satisfied with the second position because money is not everything in life.’” said Nyetipei. “That loss did not dampen my running spirit and I never regretted my actions. Imagine if I had not assisted him, what would have happened? Sometimes, we need to help out even when competing.”

Nyetipe still managed to finish in 2nd place and went home with $10,000. Jacqueline Nyetipei Kiplimo showed the world that day that to her, being compassionate and helping one another was more important than winning a race that she had been preparing for her entire life.

Lessons

1. Being compassionate and helping one another was more important than winning a race that she had been preparing for her entire life.

2. Kiplimo is a typical example of what a true leader looks like. A true leader never leaves someone disadvantaged behind.

3. Shall we stop discrimination against the vulnerable in the society?

4. Thirteen years later and beyond, this act by Kiplimo still resounds with all who hear the story as it’s first of all unheard of and remains a true definition of selflessness. A story of a good act from a good heart never fades away from generation to generation.

Quote:  It is better to come second with a testimony of a good heart than to be first with no special testimony.

Prophetic Decree: Like Dorcas, may your good deeds return unto you as a memorial, in Jesus name.

Prayer Focus

1. Thank you Father for the life of Jacqueline Nyetipei Kiplimo.

2. O Lord, please deliver me from self-centeredness, in Jesus name.

3. I receive grace to die daily to self, in Jesus name.

4. Holy Spirit, please baptize me a kind heart, in Jesus name.

5. I receive a heart of sacrificial service  both with God and mankind, in Jesus name.
