Bible Reading:  Hebrews 13:17, Exodus 20:12

Memory Verse:  Respect your father and your mother, so that you may live a long time in the land that I am giving you. Exodus 20:12 (GNT)

A son took his father to a restaurant to enjoy a delicious dinner. His father was quite old and therefore a little weak too. While eating, food occasionally fell on his shirt and pants. The other guests watched the old man with disgust, but his son remained calm.

After they both finished eating, the son, quietly helped his father and took him to the rest room even as he cleaned food scraps from his wrinkled face, and attempted to wash food stains from his clothes; graciously combed his grey hair and finally put on his glasses.

As he left the bathroom, a deep silence fell on the restaurant. The son was ready to foot the bill, but before leaving, a man, also old, got up and asked the old man’s son: ‘Don’t you think you left something here?’

The young man replied: ‘No, I did not leave anything.’ Then the stranger said to him: ‘You left a lesson here for every son, and a hope for every father!”

The whole restaurant was so quiet; you could hear a pin drop.

One of the greatest honours that exists, is being able to take care of those who have taken care of us too. Our parents and all those elders, teachers, mentors who sacrificed their lives, with all their time, money and effort for us. They deserve our utmost respect.

Don’t be like that child who wouldn’t identify with his mother publicly because of her deformed face on his house warming ceremony. Let love lead. When you meditate on the depth of the various sacrifices your parents, guardian, teachers, and pastor offered to bring you into your glorious destiny, then your heart will surely melt in deep reverence and honour. Genuine love is far higher than beauty.

QuoteWe honour our parents not only in words and actions, but also by embodying the values they taught us at all times, in all places, and under any circumstances.

Prophetic Decree:  Your head shall not miss the needed parental blessings needed to accelerate your destiny, in Jesus name.

Prayer Focus

1. Thank you Almighty God for the blessings of my parents, guardian, pastor and mentor.

2. I come against the power of discord and rancour at work between my parents and I, in Jesus name.

3. I receive grace to tolerate my parents at old age, in Jesus name.

4. I receive wisdom to work with my ageing parents, in Jesus name.

5. Holy Spirit, please daily remind me of the labours and sacrifices of my parents, mentors, guardians and mentors over the years, that I may always honour them, in Jesus name.
