Bible reading: Job 10:8-12, Psalm 22:9-10.
Memory Verse: You shall not murder. Exodus 20:15 (NKJV).
Abortion is the deliberate termination of a human pregnancy, most often performed during the first 28 weeks. Have you ever wondered what could have happened to the entire human race if Mary, the mother of Jesus aborted her first pregnancy due to the mysterious circumstances surrounding it and fear of shame? Perhaps, the Saviour of the world wouldn’t ever have been born.
A teen considering abortion is influenced by where she lives, her circle of friends, her religious beliefs, her relationship with her parents, access to family planning services, and the behaviour of her peer group. Her educational level and socioeconomic status also plays a role
Guttmacher Institute, an institute dedicated to advancing sexual and reproductive health and rights through an interrelated program of research, policy analysis and public education, which was established about five decades ago says, “The reasons teens most often give for having an abortion are: Not wanting their lives changed by the birth of a baby, not being able to afford a baby, not feeling mature or responsible enough to raise a child.”
Students who are afraid to tell their parents they are pregnant often grow desperate to end their pregnancies. According to Pregnant Teen Help, in Year 2000, there were more than 1,800 places to get an abortion in the United States.
Abortions can be done both surgically and medically. Some are performed by administering medications orally and vaginally, and this is typically done in the first trimester.
Key Point: Before you abort that pregnancy, ask yourself, “What is God saying?”
Prayer Point:
- In any way I might have been part of the process of abortion, O God of mercy, forgive me, in the name of Jesus.
- As God lives and His power endures forever, I shall not have any man’s blood crying against me, in Jesus name
