Bible reading: Gen. 34:1-7, 25.

Memory Verse: “Do not hasten in your spirit to be angry, for anger rests in the bosom of fools ”Ecclesiastes 7:9(NKJV).

Anger is one of the most common human emotions. “Anybody can become angry. That is easy. But to be angry with the right person and to the right degree and at the right time and for the right purpose and in the right way that is not within everybody’s power and is not easy.”

According to a study conducted by the Harvard Medical School, close to 8 percent of adolescents display anger issues that qualify for lifetime diagnoses of intermittent explosive disorder.

Anger can be a challenging emotion for many as it often masks other underlying emotions such as frustration, feeling of being cheated, embarrassment, sadness, hurt, fear, shame, or vulnerability. When such people can’t cope with these feelings, they may lash out, putting themselves and others at risk. Many have difficulty recognizing their feelings, let alone being able to express them or ask for help.

According to our text, Simeon and Levi, children of Jacob in their fury killed the men of Canaan when Shechem defiled Dinah, their sister.

Anger is a word short of the prefix ‘d’. Add ‘d’ before the word ‘anger’, you have the word ‘danger’. Anger could be a danger. Uncontrolled anger is dangerous! Stay away from anger. It hurts. If you are right, then there is no need to get angry and, if you are wrong, then you don’t have any right to get angry.

Quote: Anger settles on the lap of fools!

Prophetic Decree: I curse every generational spirit of anger in your life, in Jesus name.

Prayer points

  1. Foundational spirit of anger from my father’s house, die by fire, in the name of Jesus.
  2. Holy Spirit, empower me to control my anger, in the name of Jesus.
