Bible Reading: 1 Corinthians 15:33-34
Memory Verse: Don’t fool yourselves. Bad friends will destroy you. 1 Corinthians 15:33 (CEV)
History has it that King Ahmed of Ottoman {Ahmed I} (April 1590 – 22 November 1617) was the Sultan of the Ottoman Empire from 1603 until his death in 1617. At a time, he went to war and locked his wife, the beautiful Queen in a private room while he gave the key to his best friend Mousa saying: “If I’m not back in four days, open the room and she’s yours … ” He climbed on his horse and gallops off towards the battlefield. Half an hour later, the king noticed a cloud of dust behind him. He stopped and saw his friend galloping very fast towards him. “What’s wrong?” asked the King. Out of breath, his friend Mousa responded: “You gave me the wrong key” What? Can you imagine? He didn’t even wait for the said 4 days to elapse before trying the keys. Be careful with the one you consider your best “friends” and whom you think you can entrust your hard earned treasure – they could be wishing you dead and also hoping to inherit your fortune!
Furthermore, know for sure that you cannot be better than the friends you walk with. This is the main problem of most teenagers and youths. The problem of negative peer pressure! Recently in the news, 120 Yahoo boys were arrested and their names published in the dailies. I’m sure many of them were lured into such abominable crime by a bad friend. Friendship is that powerful. That friend teaching you how to smoke cigarettes, take cocaine and marijuana, steal your parents money; that friend teaching you how to become a truant, fornicate and compromise all godly values most certainly want to wreck your destiny. Parents, please listen up. For the sake of your children please strive not to live in certain polluted environment. Certain atmosphere will most definitely choke the life of Christ and good morals out of your children. Children should also bear it in mind that it was the same house that produced a Samuel (who eventually turned out to be a Prophet unto the Lord) that produced Hophni and Phinehas (two corrupt priests at the same temple). Nobody can influence you without your consent. Take personal responsibility for your life. Watch the kind of friends you walk with.
Quote: If the only way you can fit in with your friends is by doing bad things, you need some new friends.
Prophetic Decree: Let all the forces magnetizing bad friends to you, break, in Jesus name.
