Bible Reading: Pro. 13: 13-21

Memory Verse: Do not be misled: “Bad company corrupts good character.” 1 Corinthians 15:33 (NIV)

Five major predisposing factors to drug abuse among students are peer pressure, curiosity, ignorance, academic induced frustration and lack of parental care.

Adolescence and young adults are characterized by new identities/peer selection, adventurism, curiosity, excitement and role confusion. Where students are not well guided, either at home or in school, they choose wrong peers which will lead to experimenting with drugs.

Also, the storm and stress of life such as academic workload, and learning to be independent from parents could put you under pressure to find solace in drugs. In some cases, they take drugs to have momentary relief not regarding its consequences. Some have been initiated by peers without knowing what they took.

They would probably notice that they felt differently and would want to have a similar feel. Before they realize what they are taking, they would have been addicted to a particular substance of abuse. That is why some cannot tell you exactly the name of the substance they took until they go for a drug test.

In some cases, they mention a substance of abuse whose effect is in contrast to their behaviour.

Quote: Desist from negative addictions. Carefully choose your friends.

Prophetic Word: Destiny destroyers shall not mortgage your destiny, in Jesus name.

Prayer Focus

  1. I break away from all negative influences over my life, in Jesus name.
  2. Destiny polluters shall not locate my destiny in the name of Jesus.
  3. Father Lord, separate me from all unfriendly friends, in Jesus name.
  4. Jesus the yoke breaker, break the yoke of drugs in my life, in Jesus name.
  5. Every spirit of trial and error, die, in Jesus name.
