Bible Reading: Luke 10:41-42
Memory Verse: I am saying this for your benefit, not to place restrictions on you. I want you to do whatever will help you serve the Lord best, with as few distractions as possible. 1 Corinthians 7:35 (NLT)
Distraction is anything or anyone that takes your attention away from what’s truly important. It could be your phone, your thoughts, other people, or even your emotions. Distraction is anything or anyone that makes you lose focus on what God wants you to do. Distraction can be a thing or a person. Furthermore, distraction is when something pulls your heart or mind away from God, His voice, or your purpose. Even good things can become a distraction if not well handled. The devil uses distraction as one of his most effective tools to stop people from fulfilling their God-given purpose. Distraction doesn’t always look evil; sometimes it just looks like being “busy,” “entertained,” or “too tired.”
Here’s a simple breakdown with real-life examples:
1. Distraction Through Entertainment:
How it works: We live in a world full of entertainment such as movies, social media, video games, Netflix, friends, etc. There’s always something to watch, scroll, or laugh at. For example: A young man feels a call to start a Bible study in his school, but every time he plans to prepare, he ends up watching TikTok videos for hours. He says, “I’ll start tomorrow,” but tomorrow never come.
Result: Purpose delayed, then ignored.
Scripture: Ephesians 5:15–16 says, “Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity…”
2. Distraction Through Busyness
How it works: The devil doesn’t always stop you with sin; sometimes, he just keeps you “busy” with good things so you miss the best things. For example: A woman is always working, taking care of family, helping in church and doing all good things. But she never takes time to pray or listen to God. So she never hears God’s instruction about starting that business or ministry she’s been burdened about.
Result: Purpose buried under responsibilities.
Scripture: Luke 10:41–42 says, “Martha, Martha…you are worried and upset about many things, but only one thing is needed…”
Quote: Good things can become a distraction if not well handled.
Prophetic Decree: Let the grip of any form of distraction, break over your soul, in Jesus name.
