Bible Reading: Colossians 3: 12-15

Memory VerseAnyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love. 1 John 4:8

Abigail Van Buren said, “The best index to know a person’s character is to check how he treats people who can’t do him any good, and how he treats people who can’t fight back”. Back in the days when Germany was divided, a huge wall separated East and West Berlin. One day, some people in East Berlin took a truck load of garbage and dumped it on the West Berlin side. The people of West Berlin could have done the same thing, but they didn’t. Instead, they took a truck load of canned foods, bread, milk and other provisions, and neatly stacked it on the East Berlin side. On top of this stack they placed the sign:

“EACH GIVES WHAT HE HAS”. How very true! You can only give what you have. Be sincere. What do you have inside of you? Is it hate or love? Violence or peace? Death or life? Capacity to build or capacity to destroy? What have you acquired over the years? Team spirit or pull down architecture? EACH GIVES WHAT HE HAS”.

To your mother who divorced your father and made your childhood very miserable in the hands of your step mother. EACH GIVES WHAT HE HAS. You can either repay her with hatred or you decide to show her unconditional love against hatred.

To your spouse who divorced you and embraced the warmth of a strange woman. EACH GIVES WHAT HE HAS. You either teach your children to accept their father in love if not for anything but for the love of Christ, and the fatherly authority over their lives or you further assassinate their father’s character before them.

To your friends who betrayed you when you were sick, poor, had no job, or when you were in trouble. EACH GIVE WHAT HE HAS. Hatred or love? It is a function of who you really are.

Forgiveness is one rare attribute few Christians have consciously developed by the power of the Holy Ghost. Many will not climb to the peak of their destiny because they have refused to forgive. EACH GIVES WHAT HE HAS. Dear brethren, what really do you have: Love or hatred? Peace or conflict? Make the right decision today. “Confront the dark parts of yourself, and work to banish them with illumination and forgiveness. Your willingness to wrestle with your demons will cause your angels to sing” – August Wilson.

QuoteYour character defines who you are by the actions you take – Catherine Pulsifer.
