Bible Reading: Hebrews 12: 14-16

Memory Verse: Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled. Hebrews 12:15 

It is the beginning of a new year and you must consciously and deliberately purge yourself from anything that will hinder your glory.   Destructive effects of bitterness include:

a. Bitterness will bind you in an emotional prison: Most people are captives of what happened in their past though they seem to be busy. You can’t move forward looking backwards.

b. Bitterness will poison the flow of your spirit: It will breed toxin in your heart and soul. Proverbs 4:23 says, “Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.” Bitterness is like drinking poison and waiting for another person to die. Once your inside is corroded, it will affect your outward disposition leading to mind and body sickness called psychosomatic illnesses. When your mind is negatively affected, your body begins to react towards it. This is what is responsible for the inability to sleep at night (insomnia), high blood pressure, etc. Other traces of psychosomatic illnesses include: When you mistakenly step a person on the toe, and the person’s reaction is extreme. When a lady who was ill-treated by her father naturally detests all men or marriage. Many men who have problems at work but transfer their aggression on their wife and children at home are suffering from same.

c. It blocks access to the mercies of God: Such people pray but God wouldn’t hear their prayers. They take drugs but cannot be healed because their spirit is broken.

Assignment: Today must not pass by without forgiving anyone you have locked up in your heart.

N.B: Should you try to forgive and you are unable, go for deliverance. You need to break the hold of the demon spirit involved so that you can have a freedom of conscience and freedom of spirit to let go.

Prophetic Decree: I bind and cast out any demon of bitterness, in Jesus name.

Prayer Focus

1. Thank you Father for loving me past my many sins and atrocities.

2. I render to naught all the activities of the spirit of bitterness in my life, in Jesus name.

3. I receive the grace to completely forgive and forget (mention the names), in Jesus name.

4. Blood of Jesus, laminate my heart, in Jesus name.

5. Fire of the Holy Ghost, burn off any activity of the spirit of bitterness in my spirit, soul and body, in Jesus name.
