Bible Reading: Isaiah 58: 6-9

Memory Verse:  Yet even now,” declares the Lord, “return to me with all your heart, with fasting, with weeping, and with mourningJoel 2:12 (NIV)

As the year draws to a close, many people think of wrapping gifts, taking stock of finances, or making resolutions for the coming year. But in God’s kingdom, the end of the year can be a powerful spiritual checkpoint – a moment to pause, reflect, and seek God’s face with intentionality. One of the most potent tools for such moments is fasting.

In the Bible, fasting often marked seasons of transition, repentance, and preparation:

I. Moses fasted 40 days before receiving the Ten Commandments (Exodus 34:28). This was a divine preparation for a new covenant season.

II. Daniel fasted 21 days for understanding and direction (Daniel 10:2–3), and God responded with angelic visitation.

III. Jehoshaphat proclaimed a fast when Judah faced national crisis (2 Chronicles 20:3), and God gave them a supernatural victory.

IV. Even Jesus began His ministry with a 40-day fast (Matthew 4:1–2), showing that fasting sets the stage for new seasons.

As the calendar flips, fasting helps you:

1. Clear the clutter: It’s a time to disconnect from distractions, detox from overindulgence, and tune in to God’s voice.

2. Hear divine direction: Just as Daniel received insight for the future, fasting aligns your spiritual frequency to heaven’s instructions for the next year.

3. Break lingering chains: Sometimes unresolved struggles from the year need spiritual intervention; fasting invites God’s power into those battles.

4. Offer a year-end sacrifice: Fasting is a way of saying, “Lord, You are worth more than my comfort. I end this year with You at the centre.”

Challenge: Set out some few days between now and the early part of next year to fast and pray, not just for yourself but for your family, ministry, and nation.

QuoteFasting shows God that we are desperate for His help and seeking His attention by the extraordinary measure of forsaking our necessary food, so that our voice might be heard on high – C.S. Lewis.

Prophetic Decree: As you fast, the grip of the enemy over your life is broken, in Jesus name.

Prayer Focus

1. Thank you Father for another End of the year.

2. I receive grace to humble my heart in fasting, in Jesus name.

3. Every long time chain that has bound me up to this point, be broken, in Jesus name.

4. Sword of deliverance, go before me into Year 2026, in Jesus name.

5. In the remaining part of this year, there shall be no loss of life and property for me and my household, in Jesus name.

6. Door of a new opportunity, open up, in Jesus name.
