Bible ReadingJohn 10: 27-28

Memory Verse:  The spirit (conscience) of man is the lamp of the LORD, Searching and examining all the innermost parts of his beingProverbs 20:27 (AMP)

Many are asking, “Can God speak to a man like me, or is it just for pastors/ministers? If yes, how come I don’t hear?” Know this for sure: As long as you are a child of God (His sheep), you have legitimate access to his voice. John 10:27 says, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” The veil of the temple has been torn, hence, unlike the Old Testament believers, you now have legitimate access to God’s presence that will usher you to hearing His voice.

Other salient points about hearing the voice of God include:

A. God is always speaking, but many times, you aren’t listening because you haven’t trained your spirit to discern (know) His voice.

B. God speaks verbally and non-verbally. It is in His sovereignty to decide how He chooses to speak to you. You won’t always have the luxury to decide how He speaks to you. Hence, you must be vast in His many ways by which He speaks.

C. The infallible way by which God speaks to man is through the Bible. However, most of the times, he speaks through impulses, impressions, burdens, sign, symbols, and nudges in your spirit. Hence, you must train your spirit to discern.

D. Training your spirit comes through practice, discipleship, and consistent spiritual disciplines such as prayer, Word study, evangelism, fasting, deep meditation, worship, using your gifts and talents, etc.

Practical Steps to Hearing the Voice of God:

1. Immerse Yourself in God’s Word: God’s voice is on top of the written Word. The Bible is the primary filter for what you hear. Whatever contradicts Scripture is not from God. The Bible is the only infallible way by which God speaks. The voice of God in any other form WILL NEVER contradict the written word. Psalm 119:89 (NKJV) says, Forever, O LORD, Your word is settled in heaven. Start with written word. Be intimate with the written Word – your Bible. Let it tune your spiritual hearing. Always test any other way by which God speaks with the written Word of God (the Bible).

2. Establish intimate communion: Schedule consistent times of prayer and worship to quiet distractions and sharpen your spiritual perception.

3. Obey What You Already Know: Obedience to prior instructions opens the way for fresh revelation. God often won’t speak again until you act on what He has already said.

QuoteFamiliarise with the written Word, then comes the revealed Word.

Prophetic Decree:  Today, the Lord shall open your heart of understanding, in Jesus name.

Prayer Focus

1. Thank you Father for access into your Presence.

2. Thank you Father for the privilege of knowing Your voice.

3. I receive a heart to discern the voice of God, in Jesus name.

4. O God, please sharpen my spiritual sensitivity, in Jesus name.

5. My blocked spiritual antennas, blast open by fire, in Jesus name.
