Bible Reading: Philippians 2: 5-11, Colossians 3:12 (NLT)

Memory Verse: But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: “God opposes the proud but shows favour to the humble.” James 4:6 (NIV)

The natural man is very proud, boastful and arrogant. It will require the dealings of God and several encounters of brokenness to humble a man. Even then, you can’t still trust yourself. No wonder Apostle Paul said, “I discipline my body and bring it under strict control” 1 Corinthians 9:27a (HCSB). In 1 Corinthians 15:31, he further said, “I die daily”. A man of God noted for his humility once shared how God broke him.

He said after a very powerful programme in Year 1998. The whole city became paralyzed because of this programme. People walked kilometres to the venue and back to their houses. The programme was also transmitted on radio. A woman who had been carrying a long time pregnancy gave birth as soon as the word of prophecy came right there on the crusade ground. After the programme, he returned to his house and soon proceeded on a prayer walk to thank God for the great and marvellous things He did.

It was between 2-3am when God spoke. “Son, bend down. Draw the figure of a man in the sand.” He drew the figure of a man: zero for head, one line for the body and two lines for the leg and so on. Furthermore, God said, “Stand up, and wipe out the figure you have drawn with your leg.” He wiped it out. And God said, “Son, if you ever forget who your boss is, I will wipe you out and nobody will even remember you came to this world.” What an encounter of fiery words that could humble a man throughout his lifetime.

 How often do we forget the Director of all the great works in our lives. How often are we quick to forget where God has brought us from. Remember those days when you couldn’t feed, you couldn’t pay your house rent, your life was full of myriads of spiritual attacks, and your children school fees was a burden. See where God has brought you from. Fine, there are many lands yet unconquered, but you aren’t where you used to be.

So, why arrogance and pride in your approach to fellow human beings in your place of work and in your neighborhood? All you have, you have received from God. In Year 2021, if you wouldn’t want God to peg your progress or wipe you out completely, choose to be humble. Humble yourself before God humbles you. Refuse to be a shadow of God’s glory in your life.

1. Thank you Jesus for laying aside your glory and majesty in heaven to die for my sins.

3. I break every foundational yoke of pride in my heart, in Jesus name.

4. Any idol of pride in my heart, be broken, by the power in the Blood of Jesus.

5. Garment of humility, overshadow my life, in Jesus name.
