IF YOU MUST NOT REPEAT NEGATIVE FAMILY HISTORY…

Bible Reading: 2 Peter 1: 5-7

Memory Verse:  I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should. Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others I myself might be disqualified. 1 Corinthians 9:27 (NLT)

Cristiano Ronaldo, the 39-year old football player, and five times Ballon d’Or winner has never gotten a tattoo. Do you know why? Furthermore, the Portuguese legend has never taken alcohol. Here is the truth behind these principles of the great Portuguese.

In 2012, he stated that he donates blood twice a year while he was still at Real Madrid. However, tattooed individuals must wait between four months and a year before donating blood due to potential infections.

Ronaldo is not tattooed to avoid this long waiting period. He wants to be there at the right time to save lives. Also, his father died as a result of alcohol addiction. The lessons from his family history worked in him the needed discipline never to drink alcohol. He saw the wreck alcohol can do and vowed never to indulge it.

Shall we say that in order not to repeat a negative family history, a footballer put himself under strict disciplines and deep personal principles to maximise his life, potentials and destiny. No wonder he is still active and relevant as a footballer at age 39 when many of his contemporaries have retired.

Similarly, God’s servant, Rev. Olushola Areogun said he is from a polygamous family. His father married four (4) wives. Hence, he imposed on himself very strict discipline as it regards the opposite sex. No matter your calibre or pedigree in the society, as long as you are a female and not his wife or daughter, he will NEVER counsel you in his office.

You must come to the main Church before the eyes of everyone for counselling or prayers. No matter your pedigree or calibre, as long as you are a female and not his wife or daughter, should he see you outside while driving, he will not give you a lift in his car. He will rather send the Church bus to come quickly to your rescue.

No wonder he has maintained a clean slate and no rumour of immorality after several decades in ministry. Imagine a man as anointed as Rev. Areogun, yet following strict discipline. Anointing is not the solution to all your problems. Wisdom remains the principal thing. Be spiritually intelligent. Guard your destiny with strict personal disciplines and principles.

Your understanding of your family history should work a measure of wisdom and deep disciplines within you. Don’t walk gallantly on platforms angels walk cautiously. If you will not repeat the negative family history of your ancestors, if you will not make the mistakes of those that have gone ahead of you, then you will need to put yourself under some personal deep disciplines.

QuotePrinciples are bigger than principalities – Pastor Dr. Paul Enenche
