Bible Reading: 1 Thessalonians 5:17

Memory Verse:  Pray all the time1 Thessalonians 5:17 (MSG)

I strongly believe in having a specific prayer time where you meet with God daily to oil your relationship. It takes a rugged determination and deep self-discipline to maintain this consistently. But, what happens if such structure fails due to poor discipline, busy schedule, or any other limiting factors? Sure, we should find a way of still trying to reach out to God. Have you ever wondered when the Bible says, “Pray without season?” It seems to me that there’s more to prayer than has been thought.

Prayer is a heart posture of total surrender to Jesus. Prayer is koinonia (intimate fellowship) between God and Man. Prayer is a two communication lifeline between God and Man.

As a civil servant who takes two hours’ bus/train to get to work daily, why not build an altar of prayer around that time, instead of jisting, gossiping, watching skits, or flipping through your phone unproductively? Get a headphone or earbud into one of your ears, play a spiritual charged song by Theophilus Sunday, Nathaniel Bassey, Simisola Agbebi, or Dunsin Oyekan, etc., and mutter tongues under your breathe. You must learn to become a mobile altar who seeks prayer deposit here and there.

You have 30 – 60 minutes of break as a worker or student. Instead of watching your favourite season movie or action movie, go to a convenient spot, sometimes in the washroom, and pray.

At a conference many years ago, it was reported that God’s Generals, Pastor W.F Kumuyi and Pastor E.A. Adeboye met each other in the washroom after they had just finished with their Quiet time therein.

You have 10 minutes’ tea break by 11am, go to a reserved spot in your vicinity, and mutter some strong tongues. Avoid distractions. Centralise your focus. Dare to make a prayer deposit.

Feeling bored, fatigued, or overwhelmed? Instead of meditating on your problems, charge up your atmosphere with spiritual songs as you take a long stroll and start to mutter in tongues until you can roar in the Holy Ghost. Suddenly, you will notice that your problems are not as powerful as they appeared to be initially because divinity as swallowed up your humanity. His strength is being made perfect in your weakness.

Friends, do you know that if you can do an average of 15 – 20 minutes of prayer deposit 3-4 times during the day, no matter how busy, you will most likely exceed your 1hr prayer time at night. This is how to build a robust and enduring prayer life – a day-long prayer relationship with the Holy Spirit.  Don’t wait until your spirit is too flat at night to pray. Start maximising those stray time during the day.

Finally, there should never be ‘prayer holiday’. For the devil, as a roaring lion, is walking about, seeking whom he may devour (1 Peter 5:8). Prayer never fails!

QuotePrayer is the key of the morning and the bolt of the evening

Prophetic Decree:  Receive a fresh garment of continuous and effectual prayers, in Jesus name.

2. Pentecostal fire, fall upon my prayer altar today, in Jesus name.

3. Fresh appetite to pray without season, overshadow my life, in Jesus name.

4. I break every limitation upon my spiritual journey, in Jesus name.

5. Holy Spirit, please help me to journey with you daily in prayer, in Jesus name.

SEEING BEYOND THE SURFACE

Many pay attention to what is happening rather than what is going on. One of the greatest challenges in life and destiny is the temptation to focus only on what is happening i.e. the immediate, visible, noisy events around us while failing to discern what is really going on...
