Bible Reading: Daniel 4: 28-33

Memory VersePride comes before destruction, and an arrogant spirit before a fall. Proverbs 16:18 (CSB)

One of the fastest route to self-destruction is pride. Pride has caused many ministers of God fall into avoidable ministerial pit. You can be poor and yet be proud in heart. O yes! And, you can be so blessed and yet humble. The reverse is also true in both cases. Pride implies high mindedness. It is a consciousness of who you think you are, what you do, where you’ve been, your societal status, your large bank account, material possessions, and connections that makes you feel superior to others. “One of our troubles is that we are not willing to humble ourselves. We are not willing to give up our opinions as to how things should be done” – Mordecai Ham. Must your destiny continue to rot away even before your own very eyes? The father of all proud people is Satan, the evil one.

He was well respected and loved amongst the cherubs until pride entered his heart and consequently, he was thrown out of heaven. “It was pride that changed angels into devils; it is humility that makes men as angels” – Augustine. You must know that there is more to life than the present. Treat others well. You may need some certain relationships of today in the next 15 years. Life operates like water. We meet to part, and we part to meet. “Pride builds walls between people, humility builds bridges” – Rick Warren. Unfortunately, it is possible to be proud but you aren’t even aware. Yes, pride could be foundational, deeply infused in one’s blood. That is where the Holy Spirit comes in. May He open your eyes to weaknesses in your life capable of bringing you from grace to grass. Ask Nebuchadnezzar (Daniel 4:28-33). Ask King Uzziah (2 Chronicles 26:16-23). Work in us an humble heart, O Lord, in Jesus name. “The essence of Gospel – humility is not thinking more of myself or thinking less of myself, it is thinking of myself less” – Tim Keller.
