Bible Reading: Isaiah 14:12-20, James 4:6, 1 Cor. 8:2

Memory Verse: For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God. Ephesians 2:8

There is a particular type of pride found amidst Christians and ministers of the gospel called Pride of grace. It was C.H. Spurgeon who cautioned: “Be not proud of race, face, place, or grace”. When this is quoted, it is often said that pride of grace is the worst. Pride of grace is the tendency to think we have perfect knowledge of God and of God’s will. It is exemplified when we become boastful about out talents and the gifts of the Holy Ghost at work in our lives. Are you anointed as the Chapel perfect, Campus president, a Pastor or a minister. Do not dish out instructions in a commanding tone forgetting you are not a boss but a servant leader who is accountable on the Judgement day.

Beloved, there is nothing we have that we have not been given? Our position, possessions, talents, giftings and other graces are all from God. The kingdom of God is founded on service, humility and selflessness. Pride is a work of the flesh. You are to complement and not oppress others with your talents and the gift of the Holy Ghost upon your life. The early Church shared all things in common and none was lacking amongst them. When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with the humble is wisdom. –Proverbs 11:2

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:  Exodus 28 – 29
