Bible Reading: Psalm 34:1-8
Memory Verse: I will praise the LORD at all times. I will constantly speak his praises. Psalm 34:1(NLT)
Sing the hymn: “Great is thy faithfulness” on page 103. It does not matter how Year 2019 ended, Year 2020 is here. Praise ye the Lord. The Lord has indeed been your provider, shield and buckler. Stop ruminating on things that went wrong in year 2019. The contracts that didn’t pull through, the nagging family problems, your inability to settle certain bills, the embarrassment from your landlord, the unpaid mortgage, etc. Whether things are working or not in your life is more of a personal perspective than reality. You are to choose the object of your focus.
Bury the shame, pain, worry and anxiety of Year 2019 and focus on Year 2020. Friends, there is hardly anyone living who does not have a dark spot in his life. Stop feeling worthless. The whole world is not turning against you. If you don’t heal the pain of the past, you may keep bleeding in your present and in your future. Of what use is crying over spilled milk? Forget the spilled milk and go for a better one. You must learn to deliberately cultivate a heart of thanksgiving. Learn to focus on the good things happening in your life and resist concentrating on the dark patches of life. Hear the word of the Lord unto you: “Even if the fig tree does not bloom and the vines have no grapes, even if the olive tree fails to produce and the fields yield no food, even if the sheep pen is empty and the stalls have no cattle – even then, I will be happy with the LORD. I will truly find joy in God, who saves me” Habakkuk 3:17-18 (GWT).
Sometimes, you just have to praise the Lord even when you don’t feel like praising Him. The Psalmist calls it ” Sacrifice of praise”. Your grades as a student was terrible throughout your academic year in 2019. This is not a good reason to give up on schooling. Education will forever be important. Change your strategy. Change the type of friends you move with, your reading style, and perhaps your school. You may also need to spend more time with your studies and reduce media/internet time. Husbands and wife need to sit down together and dialogue on the way forward. Bosses and employees need to bury old hatchets and work together for the collective good of the company. No progress without peace. With God, this year shall be more fruitful. You will recover your wasted years. You will have your miracle baby. You will have a new job. Stagnancy shall be far from you. The God of a new beginning shall surely visit you again, in Jesus name.
Quote: Those who look up stay up, and those who look down, stay down.

Hymn
GREAT IS THY FAITHFULNESS
1. “Great is Thy faithfulness,” O God my Father,
There is no shadow of turning with Thee;
Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not
As Thou hast been Thou forever wilt be.
Chorus
“Great is Thy faithfulness!” “Great is Thy faithfulness!”
Morning by morning new mercies I see;
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided
“Great is Thy faithfulness,” Lord, unto me!
2. Summer and winter, and springtime and harvest,
Sun, moon and stars in their courses above,
Join with all nature in manifold witness
To Thy great faithfulness, mercy and love.
3. Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth,
Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide;
Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow,
Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside!
