Bible Reading:  Proverbs 3: 5-6, Proverbs 14:23

Memory VerseAll hard work brings a profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty. Proverbs 14:23 (NIV)

Miss Nkechinyere Kamsiyochukwu Umeh is the 16-year-old science student who came out as the best in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) in Nigeria, Africa. She had 360 out of 400. She scored 99 in Chemistry and 98 in Mathematics.

She attributed her success story to God, hard work, her teachers’ dedication and deep school discipline. She did not forget the help of her parents who always encouraged her. She hopes to study Chemical engineering because of her love for Chemistry and Mathematics. She aspires to have completed her master’s and PhD abroad in the next 10 years.

She has made her parents proud. The Joint Admissions Matriculation Board (JAMB) Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede gave her father a call telling him to send his daughter’s data for an award from the Nigerian Society of Women’s Engineers.

Miss Chinyere insisted UTME is not as difficult as people say. She further advised her contemporaries: “I want to advise them to work hard and start preparing early because it is always good to start on time. They must avoid anything that can distract them. They should also not look for shortcuts or easy ways to do things.

The road to success is difficult, but the result is always gratifying. They should also trust in God with all their hearts. I want to particularly advise parents to take their children to good schools where they can get the best. Good education is the best legacy.”
