Bible Reading: 2 Corinthians 8:21, Proverbs 14:34

Memory Verse  For we are taking pains to do what is right, not only in the eyes of the Lord but also in the eyes of man. 2 Corinthians 8:21 (NIV)

To be honest is to be upright, fair, truthful, sincere or frank. It is freedom from deceit or fraud. Consider these:

  1. An honest Nigerian woman who lives in California wOas searching online for some chairs to buy. Instead of buying, she found someone who gave her some nice chairs for free. But when the chairs were delivered to her, she found 14.9million naira ($25,000) cash inside one of them. She contacted the family who gave her the chairs and returned the cash immediately. She got 900,000 naira ($1,500) as reward! Testimonies like this seems weird to an uncircumcised heart.
  • A Pastor was suspicious of the integrity of his treasurer. God had particularly told him that he was a financial arm of the Gospel. One day, he told him to go get some money from one of elders of the church. The woman deliberately added two extra notes to test him. He failed the test while he reported to his pastor that she gave him just the right amount. He has just missed the moment when God’s promises for him could have been converted to a covenant.
  • Doors have been opening for Dr Christopher Kolade because of his rare virtue of honesty and integrity. He sits aboard many companies because of his integrity and honesty. Indeed righteousness exalts a nation but sin is a reproach.

Question: Are you honest? Consider the little things such as pencils and biros you “took” but didn’t return. Even between close pals and married couples there must be honesty. Consider a man who got to find out that his wife has been hiking the children’s school fees. Honesty could be unpopular is this jet race where many want to make money as fast as they can, either by hook or by crook. However, it is an enviable virtue of a man in the school of God’s holiness. Mind you, without holiness, no man can see God.

Quote:

1Honesty is the first chapter in the book of wisdom – Thomas Jefferson.

2Honesty is more than not lying. It is truth telling, truth speaking, truth living, and truth loving ― James E Faust.

Prophetic Decree:  Henceforth, your heart shall pant after honesty, in Jesus name.
