Bible reading: 1 Corinthians 9:24-27.

Derek Anthony Redmond was born 3rd September, 1965. He is a retired British athlete. During his career, he held the British record for the 400 metres sprint, and won gold medals in the 4×400 metres relay at the World Championships, European Championships and Commonwealth Games.
 
However, his career was blighted by a series of injuries. At the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona he tore his hamstring in the 400 metres semi-final but continued the race limping and, with assistance from his father, managed to complete a full lap of the track as the crowd gave him a standing ovation.
 
The incident has become a well-remembered moment in Olympic history, having been the subject of one of the International Olympic Committee’s ‘Celebrate Humanity’ videos and is used in advertisements by Visa as an illustration of the Olympic spirit, It was featured in Nike’s “Courage” commercials in 2008.
 
Are you tired of the race set before you? Do you have a couple of re-sits or carry-over courses? Is you lecturer harassing or threatening you? Are you tired of the economic situation? Is it becoming increasingly hard for your family? Are you bombarded with myriads of spiritual battles? Does life seem unbearable or do you feel like giving up?  The Lord, your Father is standing right near. You may not sense Him by your side but know for sure that He has gone before you as a mighty awesome one. He’s offering you the comfort of His arms to rest upon and grace to finish the race before you.
