Bible Reading: 1 Corinthians 10:23

Memory Verse:  You say, “I am allowed to do anything”—but not everything is good for you. You say, “I am allowed to do anything”—but not everything is beneficial.

Hello everyone. Do you know it is possible to have too much of seemingly good things? Consider this: There are many ingredients that make up the recipe for the preparation of a tasty soup. Amongst all the ingredients, without the presence of salt, the relevance of other ingredients would be abated. Now, as important as salt is, when it is too much in a soup, it renders it again unpalatable and undelightful to taste. Hence, salt is good but it must be used in moderation to get the best out of it.

Similarly, there are things in our lives which when done too much could come with some negative consequences. For example, watching/playing sports, playing computer games, chatting/gisting, and having a nice time on your various social media platforms are good provided they don’t take away your time for other important things. Many times we work hard to close the door to the devil in the areas of our obvious weaknesses, but we forget to manage our strengths with fear and trembling.

Anytime we move away from the word, ‘moderation’ we are drifting towards what could be considered as ‘weights’ that could lead to sin. The Bible says, “Laying aside every weight and sin that doth easily besets you.” (Hebrews 12:1). “All things are permitted, but not all things are of benefit. All things are permitted, but not all things build people up.” 1 Corinthians 10:23 (NASB).

Jesus loves us and set us free from weights and sin, and He wants us to enjoy good and wonderful things in our lives. But we need to do them in moderation. If they keep us from other good things such as caring for others, and spending time with them, then it becomes too much. If they cause us to neglect our responsibilities or relationships with God, family and friends then it becomes too much. You need wisdom and self-control to strike a balance. There is usually a thin line that separates the good things from the right things. Ask God to bless you with a balanced understanding today.

Quote:  Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand – Philippians 4:5 (KJV)

Prophetic Decree: Receive your deliverance from every subtle weights that could hinder the full manifestation of your destiny, in Jesus name.
