Bible reading: 1 John 2:15-17

Memory Verse: Do not covet your neighbor’s house. Do not covet your neighbor’s wife, his male or female slave, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor. Exodus 20:17 (HCSB)

Today, we shall look at the second category of sin according to our Bible Reading viz: the lust of the eyes. The lust of the eyes is the desire to possess what we see or desire to have those things which have visual appeal either by hook or by crook.  The coveting of money, possessions, or other physical things is not from God.

It refers to that which is designed merely to gratify the sight. These include: clothes, jewels, pleasure grounds, gorgeous furniture and material possessions e.g. cars and handset. The experience of David with Bathsheba in 2 Samuel 11 is a good example of the lust of the eyes. The moment he set his eyes on her, he could not resist the temptation until he fell for her; bringing a generational curse upon his lineage.

Quote:    All that glitters is not gold. Fame, fortune, and finery could fade away (Proverbs 23:5)

Prophetic Word:    Your eyes shall not take you to hell fire, in Jesus name.

Prayer Focus:

Holy Spirit, I appreciate my weakness. Help in my fight against the lust of the eyes the devil will be bringing my way to rub me of my destiny and eternity, in Jesus name. Holy Spirit, destroy the lust of the ephemeral things of this world in my heart, in Jesus name.

THE SALVATION OF YOUR FAMILY IS NOT ABOUT YOU

There is a quiet frustration many believers carry. You love God. You are committed. You pray. You serve. But someone very close to you—a child, a parent, a sibling—is not walking with God. And if you are honest, it bothers you deeply. Not just because of them, but because of you...

THE MYSTERY OF SPIRITUAL DETENTION

There was a story of two politicians fighting over a position. One of them went to a spiritualist for help who only gave him something to bath with. The other was more intentional and more desperate. He asked for something to destroy his opponent before a seven-day ultimatum.
