Bible Reading: Deuteronomy 32: 30

Memory VerseEveryone agrees a person who gives a blessing is greater than the one who receives the blessing. Hebrews 7:7 (CEV)

A dear brother wrote: Six years ago, one of my cousins sent his wife packing because she couldn’t bear him a child. It was a very touching incident. The whole family was not in support of his actions. Even me. We all knew how this woman stayed with him during his trying days. She prayed fervently for God to bless him so they can live a better life. And after two years without a child, it became a concern to her.

God eventually blessed them. In their third year, they had everything except children. By the fourth year, my cousin felt he had endured enough and decided to divorce her so he could marry another woman. When things became serious, she called my line to tell me. She said to me, “I have prayed and fasted. You know how fat I was when I married him. But now see me.

I have done all I can. I don’t know what else he wants from me.” I felt her pain. After a few months, she left the house. They were not divorced but just separated. My cousin silently picked a particular woman whom we didn’t know. No one attended her wedding. He just brought her home one day and told us he had married a new wife. From where? He couldn’t tell us.

Who is the woman? How did you meet her? He didn’t say anything. Because of the anger we had for him, we avoided his home and left him to enjoy his new wife. Months later we got a call from a neighbour. This was around 7months later. They told us my cousin was ill. We visited him grudgingly, only to discover that his home was empty. His car which he bought a year before his wife left him was sold.

He was struggling to raise 200,000 naira to pay hospital bills. We asked him when all of this started. It turned out he had been struggling with his illness for 5 months and he didn’t tell anyone. He said the wife asked him not to. We asked about his wife and he began to cry. He told us he didn’t know where she moved to. She emptied his house and his business and abandoned him.

Then he told us tearfully. “Till today, I don’t know how I got to bring her into my home. I don’t know how I met her. I don’t know what happened to me.” His first wife refused to return. She said she can’t come back to continue suffering from scratch and taking care of a man who sent her away after suffering with him for four years. Why did I share this story? When the devil wants to destroy your life, he takes away your covering.

Those whom God has blessed you with and positioned to be responsible for your progress and growth in life. It could be your partner. One who prays and intercedes for you. It could be your best friend who loves you exceedingly. It could be a family member, your parents, or your pastor. When such people leave you and you are vulnerable, the devil attacks you using your weakness. No matter the challenge, know your covering and guard it jealously.
