Bible Reading: Ecclesiastes 4:9-11

In marriage, teamwork involves both partners working collaboratively towards shared goals and responsibilities, creating a united front in navigating life’s challenges and triumphs. It’s about mutual support, shared decision-making, and understanding each other’s needs and strengths to build a stronger and more fulfilling relationship. Then, how do you build team work in your marriage?
1. DON’T BE FIXED IN YOUR WAYS: Building a team requires flexibility, not everything has to be done the way you want, how you want and when you want. Your marriage is more important than your ways.
2. BE APPRECIATIVE: It is easier for your spouse to do more with you and for you when you appreciate more than you complain.
3. ASK FOR YOUR SPOUSE’S OPINION: This makes your spouse feel involved and respected, owning the decisions you both make whether the outcomes are good or bad.
4. CHOOSE GOING TOGETHER, RATHER THAN GOING FAST: You are no longer single, you are a couple. Some things will require being patient with each other. It’s not just about arriving at the destination, but arriving there together.
5. FOSTER EMOTIONAL CONNECTION: When there is no emotional connection between you two, whatever you do, even if it’s for the family, it feels mechanical. But when you two build friendship, have fun together, are vulnerable with each other, crack jokes; it will be enjoyable doing things as a team.
6. CHECK YOUR TONE: Speak to your spouse with a warm tone. You could be saying the right thing but the wrong way, pushing your spouse away.
7. NOTICE EFFORT: It is very easy to fail to acknowledge the effort your spouse makes, especially when you have been too familiar with each other, having spent years together. When people feel unseen by the one they love, they are less motivated
8. HAVE A JOINT VISION: Give your marriage direction. Is there any goal, purpose or growth you are chasing after as a couple?

Prayer Focus
1. I receive grace not to be fixed in my own ways, in Jesus name.
2. I receive grace to appreciate my spouse at all times and in all places, in Jesus name.
3. I receive grace to speak with warmth – never saying the right thing the wrong way, in Jesus name.
4. O Lord, make us one as You are one, O Lord, in Jesus name.
5. I receive grace to see the efforts of my spouse. I reject overfamiliarity, in Jesus name.
