Bible Reading: Deuteronomy 8:5-6 (ESV)
Memory Verse: Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but he who hates reproof is stupid. Proverbs 12:1 (ESV)
Indiscipline in teens and young adults is the behaviour, intentional or unintentional, that defies rules, expectations, and authority. It is often a normal part of adolescent development and can range from minor misbehaviour to more serious, disruptive conduct. Shall we consider a few more and attendant solution:
6. Financial Habits: Careless spending and love of luxury items, Lack of saving culture, and depending excessively on parents without responsibility
Solutions: a. Learn budgeting early (e.g., 50% needs, 30% wants, 20% savings). b. Save small amounts consistently. c. Do small jobs or projects to earn pocket money. d. Delay gratification (don’t buy everything you want instantly).
Biblical Example: “The wise store up choice food and oil…” Proverbs 21:20.
7. Spiritual Discipline: Neglect of prayer, Bible study, and fellowship; Inconsistency in church attendance or service; lukewarmness and easily being swayed by worldly influences.
Solutions: a. Fix a daily quiet time (morning/evening). b. Use devotionals or Bible apps for guidance. c. Join youth fellowships and serve in church. d. Memorize at least one verse weekly.
Biblical Example: Timothy was trained in Scriptures from his youth (2 Timothy 3:15).
8. Peer Pressure: Following bad friends into drinking, smoking, or drugs. Trying to “fit in” at the expense of values. Imitating celebrities and influencers without wisdom.
Solutions: a. Choose friends who lift you higher, not drag you down. b. Learn to say “No” without guilt. c. Ask: “Will what I want to do please God or just please people?” d. Stay grounded in family and faith values.
Biblical Example: Shadrach, Meshach, Abednego refused to bow to the idols of their time (Daniel 3).
9. Self-Control and Emotions: Quick temper and anger issues. Impatience and intolerance of correction. Mood swings leading to depression or withdrawal.
Solutions: a. Count to 10 or walk away before reacting. b. Write thoughts in a journal instead of lashing out. c. Practice deep breathing or prayer when upset. d. Accept correction without defensiveness.
Biblical Example: “Better a patient person than a warrior…” Proverbs 16:32
10. Responsibility and Work Ethic: Laziness and unwillingness to do chores. Irresponsibility with personal belongings. Job hopping or lack of seriousness in early career stages.
Solutions: a. Start with small responsibilities (chores, timekeeping). b. Do tasks immediately instead of procrastinating. c. Learn basic life skills (cooking, cleaning, budgeting). d. Treat small jobs seriously—it’s training for bigger roles.
Biblical Example: David faithfully kept sheep before becoming king (1 Samuel 16:11).
Quote: Talent is nothing without dedication and discipline, and dedication and discipline is a talent in itself.
Prophetic Decree: Let every stronghold of indiscipline break in your heart, in Jesus name.
