Bible Reading: 1 Corinthians 6: 12; 19-23

Memory Verse: There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death. Proverbs 14:12

A young girl once shared her painful story about drugs. At first, she thought it would make life easier. She wanted freedom. She wanted escape. She wanted to feel loved. But years later, her words became heartbreaking: “I still want to be a child… I miss my daddy… Don’t start. There’s nothing there.” That is the voice of someone who has seen the other side of drugs.

Sin never introduces itself as destruction. It comes dressed as pleasure, freedom, excitement, or relief. Drugs often begin as curiosity, pain relief, emotional escape, or the desire to fit in. But slowly, what you control begins to control you.

This young lady admitted something very deep: “I don’t think it was drugs that was the problem. I always had emotional problems.” Many people run to drugs because they are hurting inside. Some are battling loneliness, rejection, heartbreak, anger, depression, family wounds, or disappointment. They look for healing in substances instead of in God. But drugs do not heal pain; they multiply it.

What started as “freedom” led her into instability, broken relationships, begging for food, relapse, shame, and sexual compromise just to survive. She moved from school to school, rehab to rehab, searching for peace that drugs could never give. That is the nature of addiction. It promises comfort but produces bondage.

The saddest part was when she said: “I thought I was punishing my dad.” Many young people rebel because they are angry, misunderstood, or tired of rules. But rebellion often creates scars deeper than the pain that caused it. The devil never shows the full price at the beginning.

Yet even in her brokenness, hope still spoke: “It’s one of the worst moments that God likes to show Himself in your life.” God still restores. God still heals addicts. God still gives broken people new beginnings. But wisdom says: do not enter the pit before crying for rescue.

If you have never started drugs, don’t start. No high is worth losing your mind, purpose, dignity, health, or destiny. And if you are already trapped, run to God today. There is still mercy, healing, and restoration in Christ.

Quote: Drugs are not a ‘quick fix.’ They are a quick exit through a door which too often swings only one way—toward heartache and self-destruction ~ James E. Faust

Many people see failure as proof that they are not good enough. But sometimes failure is not a sign of weakness; it is God's way of redirecting us to the place where we belong.
