Bible Reading: Luke 13:10-17

Memory Verse: And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the sabbath day? Luke 13:16

One of the most painful realities of life is the tragedy of infirmity. The spirit of infirmity is not just about sickness; it is a satanic oppression that seeks to limit, weaken, frustrate, and gradually consume a person’s strength, resources, dreams, and joy.

In Luke 13:10-17, Jesus encountered a woman who had been bound by a spirit of infirmity for eighteen years. She was bent over and could not lift herself up. What medicine, relatives, and time could not solve, Jesus solved in a moment. This teaches us that some afflictions have spiritual dimensions and require divine intervention.

The story of legendary Formula One champion, Michael Schumacher, reminds us of how suddenly tragedy can strike. In 2013, after a skiing accident, the seven-time world champion disappeared from public life. For more than a decade, a team of doctors, nurses, and physiotherapists has reportedly worked around the clock to care for him. The financial cost has been enormous, requiring the sale of valuable assets and possessions.

This story illustrates a sobering truth: health is a treasure that money alone cannot guarantee. A man who conquered racetracks around the world could not overcome one tragic moment. Wealth, fame, influence, and accomplishments are powerless when infirmity takes hold.

The spirit of infirmity is tragic because it steals strength and vitality, consumes financial resources, limits productivity and purpose, affects entire families, not just individuals, creates emotional and psychological burdens, and can reduce great dreams to daily survival,

Many families today are spending fortunes to manage diseases. Some have sold properties, exhausted savings, and borrowed heavily just to keep loved ones alive. Others watch helplessly as sickness gradually drains joy from their homes.

Yet the good news is that Jesus Christ is still the Great Physician. He heals the sick, strengthens the weak, and delivers those bound by every yoke of infirmity. What doctors cannot do, God can do. What money cannot buy, mercy can provide.

Question: Do you show compassion to those battling sickness?
