Bible Reading: Romans 8:34, 1 Timothy 2: 1-2

Memory Verse: So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it; but I found no one. Ezekiel 22:30 (NKJV)

If there is a man to pray, there is a God to answer. Today, let’s talk about the benefits, cost, and reward of intercession.

Benefits of intercession

I. Intercession Changes Lives: One of the greatest examples in Scripture is Moses.

When Israel sinned and deserved judgment, Moses stood before God and pleaded for mercy. His prayers helped preserve the nation (Exodus 32:11-14).

Likewise, Abraham interceded for Sodom. Though the city was ultimately judged, Abraham’s prayers demonstrated the power of standing before God for others.

Throughout history, revivals have often been preceded by faithful intercessors who prayed behind the scenes. Many great moves of God began not on a platform, but in a prayer room.

II. Intercession Invites God’s Intervention: There are situations that money cannot solve, education cannot solve, and human effort cannot solve. Yet God can intervene when His people pray. Intercession opens doors for the salvation of loved ones, healing of the sick, restoration of families, revival in churches, wisdom for leaders, peace in communities, advancement of God’s kingdom, and God works through the prayers of His people. James 5:16 says: “The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.” Every prayer offered in faith releases spiritual influence, even when results are not immediately visible.

The Cost of Intercession

Intercession requires sacrifice. Many times, intercessors pray when others are sleeping. They continue praying when answers seem delayed. They remain faithful because they trust God’s timing. True intercession is not driven by emotion alone; it is sustained by love. A parent who continually prays for a wayward child understands this. A pastor praying for his congregation understands this. A believer crying out for revival understands this. The intercessor learns perseverance.

The Reward of Intercession

One of the greatest joys in the Christian life is seeing God answer prayers offered on behalf of others. To watch a prodigal child return home, a sick person recover, a marriage restored, or a soul saved is a powerful reminder that prayer matters. Heaven records every prayer. No sincere intercession is wasted. Sometimes the answer comes quickly. Sometimes it comes after years of faithful prayer. But God hears every cry offered according to His will.

Quote: Give me Scotland, or I die – John Knox

Prophetic Decree: Let the fire of intercession burn across the nations of the Earth, in Jesus name.

Prayer Focus

1. We repent of our selfishness in our attitudes towards prayers, in Jesus name.

2. Holy Spirit, raise up prophetic intercessors for our land, community and nation as a whole, in Jesus name.

3. Strongman holding territories in captivity, the Lord rebuke you, in Jesus name.

4. We receive power to break the jugular of territorial princes holding our homes, friends, school, communities, villages, and nation in ransom, in Jesus name.

5. By the mercy of God, I shall not lose the reward of an intercessor, in Jesus name.

Divine Direction Vs. Self

Many believers desire divine direction, but few realise the price that often accompanies it. God's guidance becomes clear when our own ambitions, preferences, and opinions are surrendered to Him.

One of the greatest gifts God gives His children is divine direction. Life is full of decisions, crossroads, and opportunities. Sometimes the difference between success and struggle is simply knowing which way to go.
