Bible Reading: Proverbs 30: 10-14, 17
Memory Verse: HONOR [esteem, value as precious] YOUR FATHER AND YOUR MOTHER [and be respectful to them]—this is the first commandment with a promise. Ephesians 6:2 (AMP)
Lately, there is a gradual build-up of a pressure group who have arrogated to themselves the responsibility of scrutinising, analysing, correcting, and rebuking men and women of God and their biblical teachings. Some even go further to pay bloggers to tarnish the image of some of these anointed servants of God.
You must understand that life is spiritual and things just don’t happen; people don’t just do or say things. There is a spirit behind what we see in the physical realms. When there is a sudden rise in a movement, narrative, or culture that seeks to overturn or replace the old with the new, we must be cautious not to be dazzled and hypnotised. We must all seek to be good students of Bible history, and correct Scripture interpretation.
Can the fathers of faith be wrong? Why not? Revelation is progressive. Prophet Samuel almost made a mistake when he was sent to anoint a son of Jesse as king of Israel. He looked physically at Eliab, the first born and wanted to anoint him. He said, “Behold, the Lord’s anointed is here.” The Lord said, No, I have not chosen this one!” All the sons Prophet Samuel thought was God’s choice were all rejected by God until David came and God said, “Arise, and anoint him.” Pronto, this great prophet of the Almighty whose words never fell to the ground realigned his ways.
Should your father/mother (earthly or spiritual) be wrong, are you allowed to correct him/her? Yes and No, depending on spiritual rank, the situation, prevailing circumstances, relationship, and proximity, amongst several other factors. Generally, the best way to correct a father/mother is through intercession. Let God who called them speak to their hearts.
In a situation when you are permitted to correct, what is even more important is how the correction is done. Correct in honour, and not in dishonour. Correct in humility and not in arrogance. Never correct to smite directly and/or indirectly. You remember Aaron and Miriam who spoke against the decisions of Moses when the latter married from Cush whom God forbade? Miriam criticised Moses when God had not commanded it. She broke the Priestly rank. Consequently, she suffered from leprosy. Be warned (Numbers 12:1-16).
May the Lord help us not to miss the ancient mantles, heritage and inheritances locked up in our fathers. Dishonour can cause what is yours by prophecy to elude you in reality. Only the path of honour connects prophecy to reality. This 21st century generation has got to be warned!
Quote: It is possible to be right but wrong.
Prophetic Decree: We curse every spirit of the End time propagating rancour and dishonour in the body of Christ, in Jesus name.
Prayer Focus
1. Lord, we repent of the deception of this age, in Jesus name.
2. I receive grace to study to show myself approved unto God, in Jesus name.
3. Dishonour and lack of self-control shall not cause me to despise my heritage, in Jesus name.
4. Lord, open the eyes of your servants that they may correct their wrongs, in Jesus name.
5. I receive the grace and capacity to know the Scriptures for myself and to defend the truth in humility and honour without despising the labours of my father/mother, in Jesus name.
