Bible Reading: Proverbs 29:8
Memory Verse: Righteousness exalts a nation, But sin is a disgrace to any people. Proverbs 14:34 (NASB)
The problem of Africa is not primarily our political structures but her people. Many of us are mostly wicked, heartless and selfish. Our government at various levels are being run by fellow citizens and not foreign colonials, yet we don’t have good governance. We are our own enemies. The Central Bank of an African country pumped millions of dollars into rice production, yet same citizens helped by government to go into rice farming at single digit interest rate are seizing the opportunity of non-competition from importation to sell at exorbitant price. Aren’t we our own problems? Many shouting corruption or misgovernance are bitter because they are not part of the game. They are waiting and praying it would get to their turn. O Lord, purge this continent. When a public utility company was sold with clauses that practically make her citizens slaves to the buyers. For government to severe the sales agreement would cost about 6 million dollars. The sellers that accepted such conditions are citizens, the buyers who are part of the agreement are citizens of the same country. Aren’t we working against ourselves? The Custom Officer that would allow fake drugs and ammunitions into the country because he has been bribed. Yet, we cry concerning escalated insecurity. We are our own enemies. Government subsidizes petrol consumption for every body to benefit, but empty vessels would sail to our waters and payment received for empty vessels. The fake importers and those approving payments are all members of the same country. We are our own enemies. The government hospital personnel that would steal drugs and wouldn’t attend to patients, yet decry state of health institutions and medical tourism. We are our own enemies. An African would kidnap, cheat or murder another for money. Then he begins to live in big cities or runs abroad to sponsor youths against bad governance. We are our own enemies. The exam supervisor that would sell question papers, award marks for money or sex, and yet cry to heaven for falling standard of education. We are our own enemies. Check out all facets. The cops that would kill because of $0.125, set chronic criminals free while imprisoning poor pick pockets. We are our own enemies. The contractor that would collect mobilisation fee but wouldn’t execute the jobs. Others collect the whole contract money and does only a shoddy job. We are our own enemies. What is the way out Africa? The Fear of God. That’s the beginning of all wisdom.
Quote: The problem of Africa rests in Africa, and can only be solved by Africans.
