DWOJ Daily Words of Jesus Devotional Post August

Saturday, 6th August, 2016.

Scripture Reading: Luke 11:1-13.

Memory verse for the week:   John 14:26

But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. (KJV)

Welcome again to our series on the Holy Spirit. Can I ask a question?  When are you going to be soaked with water in the following two situations: Someone pouring a cup of water on your head, or by you stepping into a mighty river? Yeah! The answer sure is the obvious… (Smiles!!)

At the point of salvation, the Holy Spirit comes just in a measure into your life (just like when you are being poured a cup of water on the head). Rom 8:16. But, when you receive the Holy Spirit baptism, you are then completely soaked in Him (you step into a mighty river!). Acts 4:8 , 13:52.  To be baptized means “to be soaked”. When you’re baptized in the Holy Ghost, you’re soaked in Him. How lovely!

CONDITIONS FOR RECEIVING THE HOLY SPIRIT

First, note that the Holy Spirit cannot be bought with money as Simon, the Sorcerer thought in Acts 8:9-24. Secondly, you must have a right heart and a good motive. Don’t desire the baptism of the Holy Spirit because you want to boast by speaking in tongues in the midst of your friends. Thirdly, you must develop a genuine hunger and thirst for Him. Mat.5:6

HOW DO I RECEIVE THE BAPTISM OF THE HOLY SPIRIT?

  1. Ask prayerfully in faith. Luke 11:13.
  2. Wait long in the place of fellowship – praising, worshipping and praying to God. He will come suddenly like the day of Pentecost at the Upper room. Acts 2:1-4.

Do you know the disciples and others present at the Upper Room waited for the filling of the Holy Spirit for 10days after Jesus had ascended to heaven!  As an invited guest, the Holy Spirit comes in His own time. Patiently wait for Him as you fellowship in God’s Presence.

  • By Spiritual impartation e.g. Peter and John laid their hands on the people of Samaria when they were converted and they received the Holy Ghost. Acts 8:14-17.

ACTION WORD:       CHRISTIANITY WITHOUT THE HOLY SPIRIT IS A MERE RELIGION.

PRAYER POINT:

  1. Holy Spirit, I have come to understand that I cannot do without you, come in your fullness into my life in Jesus name.
  2. Holy Spirit come upon me; power of the Most High overshadow me, in the name of Jesus.
