Bible reading: Matt. 7:15-23
Memory Verse: “Dear friends, do not believe everyone who claims to speak by the Spirit. You must test them to see if the spirit they have comes from God. For there are many false prophets in the world” 1 John 4:1(NLT).
Take note of the following salient points in your dealings with the Prophetic:
- Not everyone that prophesies is a genuine prophet. Test all spirits (1 John 4:1).
- A Prophet is known by the fruits he bears – his character, his attitude towards holiness, personal fellowship with God, financial integrity, relationship with opposite sex, etc. “Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves” (Matt. 7:15, NIV)
- You don’t pay money to receive a prophetic word from a genuine prophet (Matt. 7:22-23).
- We are to relate directly with God in a vertical relationship and with our Prophets in a horizontal relationship. Don’t substitute the place of daily personal fellowship with God for prophecy. A prophet is just one of God’s many channels of reaching out to men. You need both relationships (Josh. 1:8).
- You need the gift of the spirit of discernment to differentiate between a false and genuine prophet (Col. 2:8).
- Take heed before any prophet lays his hand upon your head. A positive or negative spiritual exchange takes place anytime this is done. Beware (1 Tim. 5:22).
- The office of the New Testament prophet is different from that of the Old Testament prophet. While the Old Testament prophet is the only person able to receive the Word of God for God’s people, the New Testament prophet confirms the Word of God with the people.
Quote: Beware of wolves in sheep clothing.
Prophetic Word: I cut you off from the influence and dominion of any satanic prophet over your life, in Jesus name.
Prayer Points:
- I receive the Spirit of discernment, in the name of Jesus.
- Fire of God, separate me from any false prophets, in the name of Jesus.
