Bible Reading:  2 Timothy 4: 7-8

Memory Verse:  For David, after he had served the purpose of God in his own generation, fell asleep, and was laid among his fathers and underwent decayActs 13:36 (NASB)

John Wesley was born in Epworth, England, on June 17, 1703. He was the fifteenth of nineteen children born to Samuel and Susanna Wesley. His father was an Anglican clergyman, and his mother was a deeply religious woman. Wesley received a classical education at home and at Oxford University.

At Oxford, Wesley joined a group of students known as the Holy Club. The members of the Holy Club were committed to holiness and a life of strict religious discipline. They met regularly to pray, study the Bible, and fast. Wesley was ordained as a minister in the Church of England in 1728.

In 1735, Wesley sailed to Georgia as a missionary to the British colonists and the Native Americans. His time in Georgia was unsuccessful, and he returned to England in 1738. While on the ship back to England, Wesley experienced a profound religious conversion. He had been struggling with his own faith, and he finally came to believe that he was saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ.

After his conversion, Wesley began to preach and teach about the new life in Christ. He traveled extensively throughout England and Ireland, preaching to large crowds. He also organized groups of people who met regularly to study the Bible and pray. These groups came to be known as Methodists.

Wesley and his brother, Charles, began to preach the gospel throughout England. They were often met with opposition, but they persisted in their mission. Wesley traveled over 250,000 miles on horseback and preached over 40,000 sermons during his lifetime.

Wesley’s preaching and teaching had a profound impact on England. He helped to revive religious faith and to spread the message of salvation through grace. He also founded a new church movement, the Methodist Church. Wesley died in London in 1791.

Challenge: It’s being almost 250 years since John Wesley died, yet his exploits are still being celebrated and his legacies are still speaking.  What will you have God do with this one life He has loaned you that will produce a transgenerational impact in years to come?

Quote: Give me one hundred preachers who fear nothing but sin and desire nothing but God, and I care not whether they be clergymen or laymen, they alone will shake the gates of Hell and set up the kingdom of Heaven upon Earth.

Prophetic Decree: May your life count in this world and in eternity, in Jesus name.

Prayer Focus

1. The challenges of life shall not drift my focus from the eternal purpose of God for my life, in Jesus name.

2. My Father, please let my life count, in Jesus name.

3. My purpose on earth shall not be defeated, abolished or replaced, in Jesus name.

4. Focus breakers, be removed out of my way by fire, in Jesus name.

5. Grace to fulfil destiny, rest upon me, in Jesus name.
