CHURCH GROWTH vs. CHURCH HEALTH

CHURCH GROWTH vs. CHURCH HEALTH

DWOJ Daily Words of Jesus Devotional Post October

Bible Reading:    Acts 2:37-47.

Topic:              CHURCH GROWTH vs. CHURCH HEALTH

Memory verse:   So mightily grew the word of God and prevailed.  Acts 19:20.

It’s amazing to see churches crop up from every nook and cranny all over the country. Sometimes a 3-storey building has 3 different churches on each floor. Imagine what a “glorious Sunday service” will look like with the 3 churches having a state-of-the-art sound system; all blaring theirs very loudly?

Some few minutes ago before writing this devotional, I was watching a Christian channel on a cable television station. The man of God said that one of his sons in the ministry came excitedly telling him that his church had grew from 40 to 500 in the last one year. That’s beautiful, and a testimony of rapid church growth worthy of commendation. But, I guess he has kept the cart before the horse.

The true testimony of the Church Jesus handed over to His disciples should be on the impact of the Word in the life of the brethren (John 21:15-17). The true state of a church should be measured by her health. By this I mean the quality of the life of the brethren, their Christian character, and their attitude to holiness, Christian service, evangelism; and heaven consciousness.

Does your church pride itself of its growth or health? Be careful, there are wolves in sheep’s clothing (Mat. 10:16).

Key point:    Be Diligent To Understand The Mission Statement Of Your Local Church.

Prayer points:

  1. Lord Jesus, help your Church keep their focus on you, in the name of Jesus.
  2. We rebuke activities of the work of the flesh in the Church of God, in the name of Jesus.
