BibleReading: Matthew 5:28-30, Hebrews 12:4, 2 Corinthians 12: 9

MemoryVerse: And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.  Matthew 5:29

Sing the hymn: “All to Jesus I surrender” on page 105. Get your pen and your church jotter quickly and write out all the weaknesses you are presently dealing with in your life. If you can’t do this in less than two minutes, perhaps you are not consciously striving to grow into the full stature of Christ Jesus. Pastor E. A. Adeboye gave his opinion on the subject of weakness: “When hunters want to catch an eagle, they tie a big hen in a place where the eagle can easily spot it. When the eagle is flying and it sees the hen, it rejoices, then flies down to pick the hen. Unknown to the eagle, the hen is tied down.

When the eagle carries the hen and attempts to fly with it, it pulls hard, triggering a heavy basket that falls over it, hence trapping it there until the hunter comes. The hen is the eagle’s weakness; it cannot resist going for it, so the hunters use that against it. This is the same way the devil traps Christians who fail to deal with their weaknesses. That is why you need to discover and deal with your weakness fast before it destroys you.” The first step to dealing with your weakness is to accept in humility and in all honesty that you have one. Many are too proud to come to that state of mind.

Hey friend, the strength of God does not come upon our strength. No, it doesn’t. His strength is only being made perfect in our weaknesses – when we come to the end of ourselves. Dealing with a weakness takes conscious painstaking effort. If your weakness for example is money, you need to consciously resist any temptation to steal, and don’t stay around other people’s money. Moses had one weakness and that was anger.

It seemed he had dealt with this weakness as the Bible recorded that he was the meekest man on earth. However, he relaxed and that same weakness that seemed to have been dealt with was what put him in trouble (Numbers 20: 8-12). Just like hunters, the devil is very patient. Once he knows a person’s weakness, he will wait until the fellow relaxes, then strikes. David’s weakness was women and that brought a curse upon his lineage such that up till today, the sword has not departed from Israel; the nation is always involved in one way or the other (2 Samuel 12:10).

Not dealing with your weakness can bring generational consequences. Stay alert; deal with that weakness and never swallow the devils bait. Your weakness could be pornography, masturbation, oversensitivity, gossip, backbiting, anger, lust, pride, laziness, carefree attitude, addiction to illicit sex, or drug abuse, etc. Talk to God sincerely about it today. He is most willing to help you. Sing today’s hymn again.
