Bible Reading: Romans 8:18, 2 Corinthians 1:4
Memory Verse: Who comforts and encourages us in every trouble so that we will be able to comfort and encourage those who are in any kind of trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. 2 Corinthians 1:4 (AMP)
Reverend (Mrs) Christy Bature once shared how she managed the infidelity of her husband. She said one day her husband gave her a call and was weeping saying a woman with her 21-year-old daughter who hitherto had been living abroad walked up to him that he was the father to her daughter. Of course, she went off balance. Is it true? What happened? When did it happen? How did it happen? and such like questions were flipping through her mind.
The first lesson to learn from this experience is that your secret sins will surely find you out, no matter how long. Please open your past to your partner before you both go before the altar of God for holy solemnization. Luke 8:17 (AMP), “For there is nothing hidden that will not become evident, nor anything secret that will not be known and come out into the open.”
On sighting the said lady, she concluded that a DNA test to determine the true paternity wasn’t needed. The resemblance was striking. Her children received the news with shock. Her children gradually slided into depression. One of them even locked himself up in his room for days. What a rude shock!
Quickly, she had to do something. She had the option to either divorce or forgive (Matthew 19:9, 5:32). As she waited upon the Lord, she decided to settle for the latter. This is uncommon. She opened her home to the 21-year old and gave her an uncommon acceptance. Even her mother-in-law said she can’t do what she did. She decided to forgive, consoled her children, and accepted her fate. Life goes on.
You see, when the unimaginable and uncommon happens, it is simply because God is up to something. Today, God has turned the scar of her past into a message. God is using our dear Reverend Mrs. to heal homes on the verge of collapse by simply sharing her own testimony.
Disclaimer: Today’s devotional is not an excuse for men to become adulterers. Men who do that risk divorce and above all, their eternal destinies in hell. “He who digs a pit will fall into it, And whoever breaks through a wall will be bitten by a serpent.” Ecclesiastes 10:8 (NKJV)
Quote: When life throws lemons at you, convert them into lemonades.
