Bible Reading: Matthew 6: 9-13

Memory Verse:  Therefore, confess your sins to one another [your false steps, your offenses], and pray for one another, that you may be healed and restored. The heartfelt and persistent prayer of a righteous man (believer) is able to accomplish much [when put into action and made effective by God—it is dynamic and can have tremendous power]. James 5:16 (AMP)

Effective prayer simply means prayer that brings results. Then, how do you pray to get results? Matthew 6: 9-13 and James 5:16 says it all!

1. Confess your sins: You can’t ascend unto the holy hills of the Lord with unholy heart (Psalm 24:3-4). First, purge yourself of any known sin, unforgiveness, hatred, and bitterness. Friends, learn to forgive people before they offend you. Learn to let go. Don’t hold on to grudges. Men will always be men.

2. Thanksgiving and Praise: How will you feel if someone whom you’ve been so good to doesn’t appreciate your good gestures but keeps asking for more? Same with God! Appreciation is an application for more. Enter His gates with thanksgiving in your heart, and enter His courts with praises (Psalm 100:4). Come to the altar of prayer with a grateful heart.

3. Go for light: By light we mean the knowledge of God’s Word and God’s will. The entrance of His word brings light and understanding unto the simple (Psalm 119:130). Hence, you must be a good student of the Bible. You can’t be praying to God to give you another woman’s husband. It shows you lack understanding of God’s Word and consequently, God’s will. Prayer does not invalidate God’s word; rather, it enforces it. Pray with understanding and revelation. The more light (knowledge of God’s Word and God’s will) you have, the more potent and effective your prayers will be. Be grounded in God’s Word, as revelation is a crucial tool for effective prayer. Study the scriptures and allow them to guide your prayers.

4. Engage Your Heart: Heartfelt prayer is being fully present and engaged, both mentally and emotionally. John Bunyan, the man who wrote the book, ‘The Pilgrim’s Progress’ said, “It is better to have a heart without words than words without a heart.”. Praying effectively involves the totality of your heart and spirit. Avoid praying with a wandering mind and heart; allow your prayer to come from the depth of your heart. Recognise that prayer that moves God to act is often prayer that engages the heart to seek Him.

Quote:  Prayer requires more of the heart than of the tongue – Adam Clarke.

Prophetic Decree: Receive grace for quick answers to all your prayer requests, in Jesus name.

Prayer Focus

1. Thank you Father for opening my eyes of understanding.

2. I confess every sin that may hinder my answered prayers, in Jesus name.

3. I received an attitude of thanksgiving, in Jesus name.

4. O Lord, give me a deeper understanding of your God’s Word and will, in Jesus name.

5. Holy Spirit, please help my heart posture.  Deliver my heart from pride, lack of focus, or vain repetitions, in Jesus name.

YOU NEED THE POWER OF GOD (2)

Christianity is not an intellectual religion but a demonstration of divine life. Power authenticates your claim of intimacy with God. Without it, your message is theory. 1 Corinthians 4:20 says, “For the kingdom of God is not in word, but in power.” Today, let's look at the subject of power from three other...
