Bible Reading: Ecclesiastes 11:6

Memory Verse:  The rich rules over the poor, And the borrower is servant to the lender. Proverbs 22:7 (NKJV)

As wonderful as formal education system is, it has its own inherent limitations. Truth be told, the curriculum many schools are using, especially in Africa, leaves little or nothing to be desired. Deliberately or not, most educational curriculum were designed to breed people who will acquire a degree and hunt for jobs afterwards – workers not entrepreneurs! I challenge the government and school owners to include financial education (entrepreneurship) as a compulsory subject; teaching courses such as assets and liabilities, right from primary schools.

Financial Education include:

1. Don’t work for money: If you work for money, your mind will start thinking like an employee. If you start thinking differently, you will see things differently. The rich works on their asset column, every dollar in their asset column is their hard-working employee.

2. Don’t be controlled by emotions: It is risky not to take risks. Two emotions you need to guard are fear and greed. Fearful people hardly take risk. “Failure inspires winners. Failure defeats losers.” Courage is not the lack of fear; rather, courage is the suppression of fear. Do it afraid! On the other hand, greedy people want to get rich overnight.

3. Acquire assets not liabilities: Assets put money into your pocket, but liabilities take money out of your pocket. Don’t buy liabilities such as big cars, heavy bikes, or big houses on your way to financial freedom. Instead, buy assets such as stocks, bonds, real estate, mutual funds, rental properties, etc. The rich buy assets which in turn buy them luxuries. The rich buy houses and rent them, which pay them in return for their luxuries such as exotic cars. The poor or middle class buy luxuries first, but the rich buy luxuries last.

4. Increase your Wealth: Your true wealth is how long you could live comfortably if you stopped working today. Consider this to be truly wealthy.

5. Mind your own business: If you have a job, keep your job and start a part-time business and keep working on it. Instead of unnecessary online chat, build an online business. Use the time that you spend on your iPhone, parties, or any other activities to build your business. Never leave your job until you build your own business. Don’t struggle all of your life for someone else. Start your own business and grow your business.

Quote:  If you want to be financially free, you need to become a different person than you are today and let go of whatever has held you back in the past – Robert Kiyosaki
