Bible reading: Exodus 21:22-25

Memory Verse: If men fight, and hurt a woman with child, so that she gives birth prematurely, yet no harm follows, he shall surely be punished accordingly as the woman’s husband imposes on him; and he shall pay as the judges determine. Exodus 21:22(NKJV)

  1. The Bible Upholds a High Value of Human Life

From the very first chapter of the Bible, the Scriptures make it clear that human beings are precious and highly valuable. This isn’t because of what we can do or what we’re made of.

Instead, all human beings are valuable because all are created in the image of God (Genesis 1:26-27).To take a human life is a grievous rebellion against God in all but the most extreme circumstances. The simplest example of this reality comes from the Ten Commandments: “You shall not kill” (Exodus 20:13).

  •  The Bible Identifies Unborn Children as Human Beings (Exodus 21:22-25).

Zygotes and embryos as are in fact pre-born children. Embryos living in the womb carry the hallmarks of humanity and the full potential for human life, which makes them human beings.

Also, there are many examples of Bible passages that treat unborn babies as living and established members of the human race. Exodus 21:22-25 makes us to understand that if men took actions that caused harm to an unborn baby, they were to receive a punishment. In the eyes of the God’s law as given to the Israelites, unborn children had legal status. We don’t follow the Old Testament law today, of course. However, we do acknowledge that God’s law was an expression of His values. In a similar way, God’s Word credits unborn children with having spiritual status in God’s eyes. He is involved in their development in the womb, and He has already made plans for their future (Jeremiah 1:5, Psalm 139:13-16)

Key Point:  The standard of God remains constant.

Prayer Point:

O Lord my heavenly Father, open the eyes of my understanding and many of my friends to follow your instructions for our life daily, in Jesus name.
