  1. Forgiveness: Don’t deceive yourself. Marriage is a union of two people who have chosen to always forgive each other. Those roller coaster experience in movies hardly exist. If your marriage must work, put on the garment of forgiveness each day. When you hear people celebrate 30 years of marriage, know for sure they are talking about 30 years of daily forgiveness. If your marriage must work, you must be ready to forgive again and again.
  • Managing in-laws and third parties: Should there be any pressing unresolved issue, it is best you bring in a neutral party such as your Pastor or any Christian marriage counsellor who will look at such without bias.
  • Finance: While we must not overestimate this factor, we won’t do well to underestimate it. It is adviceable in this changing times for both couples to find something doing no matter how small. The economy can no longer be predictable. Again, try your best to have a side business aside your regular job.
  • Child care management: Thank God for the birth of children, but don’t substitute them for your spouse’s love. The children came as a result of koinonia you both had together as couples.
  • Understanding love languages: This is a powerful tool. You must know how to communicate the love you profess to your spouse. Spending time together gisting, buying gift, involvement in house chores, site seeing, etc are some of the common love languages. Know which one best sooth your spouse and do it.

12. Long distance marriage: Can I admonish by the grace bestowed unto me? Once you are married, one of you MUST compromise his/her location. Please leave those excuses such as job location. Don’t be married yet single. Many times, it doesn’t work; and often leads to adultery.

Quote: Great marriages don’t happen by luck or by accident. They are the result of a consistent investment of time, thoughtfulness, forgiveness, affection, prayer, mutual respect, and a rock-solid commitment between a husband and a wife — Dave Willis.
